[comp.sys.mac.misc] How can I read GIF files?

Hello
I am a very beginner in the Newsgroup, but very interested in converting
GIF files to those readable in the Macintosh (I have a Mac IIcx with a 256
colour monitor).  
However, I know nothing about either decoding GIF files in the newsgroup or
converting those.
Could anyone send me softwares for decoding and converting (in BinHex format),
if those are free/share wares.
Any help related to this problem of mine will be appreciated.
