My office is in the processof converting our existing LocalTalk network to EtherTalk. This is being done using Nodems as a scsi twisted-pair ethernet connector. We currently are running Sun Microsystems' InBox as our e-mail system. To avoid the high cost of connecting LaserWriters to ethernet we are using Liason as a software bridge between EtherTalk and LocalTalk. Here is the problem, we want to centralize all file server type activities onto one Macintosh. So, we have connected the serving Mac to ethernet via the Nodem, installed Liason as a bridge to the LaserWriters and moved our e-mail to the same Macintosh. Since we have done this InBox has been completely unstable. Printing seems to be find as well as TOPS transfer capabilities. Everyone keeps getting I/O Error when they try and send their messages. They only work 1 out of 5 times. Also the server inconsistently connects to ethernet (about every other restart sometimes on the third time). If we move InBox to another LocalTalk based Mac it works fine. However, our goal is to centralize the printer spooling and e-mail resources. Any clues??? We are in desperate need of a solution.
