When I got my new DeskWriter, I was uncertain whether to use HP's outline fonts or to use ATM. I had just received and installed the new ATM 2.0, so I went ahead and tried printing without installing any of the HP fonts. When I tried to print, I got a dialog box warning me that no outline font was found, so that a bitmappped version of Helvetica was being down- loaded. But the printout look great. I then tried installing HP's outline font, and printed again. No warning this time, no visible difference in print quality. So I then did a timing test of the 2 methods. What a surprise! HP specs the printer at 1 page/min (best quality) on a Mac Plus, and that's right about what I got. But with ATM2.0, the same page only took 40 seconds. So needless to say, I have no problem overlooking the annoying warning about "downloading bitmap font" that flashes up for a couple of seconds every time I print... If you have a DeskWriter, do yourself a favor: get ATM 2.0 and forget the HP outline fonts.
