I administer an AppleTalk network with about 3 dozen macs and 7 LaserWriters. We have been using LaserWriter and LaserPrep 6.0 for quite a while now with no problems. I insist that every Mac have the same version of LaserWriter and LaserPrep to avoid re-initializing the printers. Recently, we put a Mac IIci on the net. I started getting "printer initialized with incompatible version of LaserPrep" messages, so I installed LaserWriter and LaserPrep 6.0 on the IIci. The IIci was unable to print. PrintMonitor would hang, bomb, unexpectedly quit. Even when it seemed to have no problems, nothing appeared on the printer. I re-installed the 5.2 LaserWriter software that came with the system, and the machine prints fine. I'm in the process of installing 5.2 on all of our Macs, for compatibility's sake. Has anyone seen this before? Why is Apple shipping LaserPrep 5.2 with the ci when 6.0 has been out for so long? Thanks for any help. Email or post at your discretion. If I receive any enough "me-too" requests, I will post a summary. Charles H. Buchholtz chip@ee.upenn.edu Systems Programmer Electrical Engineering University of Pennsylvania.
