Thought I'd just throw in my own two-bits-worth about the LiveAid concert. Since I don't have MTV, I had to make do with the syndicated broadcast plus Dick Clark's evening program on ABC. First of all, I must say I'm impressed with the overall quality of the acts and the expertise with which the technical problems were overcome. My biggest gripe was the frequent interruptions to the syndicated coverage to give us live reports from inside Reagan's intestines. Because of the news media's overzealous attempt to wring news out of a Presidential operation, I missed all but the last minute of U2's performance (argh!) and God knows what else. Not being a Beach Boys fan, I must admit I thought they gave a rather good performance. Being a Tom Petty fan, I thought their performance was below my expectations. I wanted to have seen the Pretenders, but could only hear most of their performance because my dad commandeered the TV to watch professional wrestling (ugh!). Of course, Crosby, Stills and Nash gave their usual static performances (even though I like their music, they are terrible in concert) and Bob Dylan was fairly pathetic (even though I don't like his music, I was expecting better). Mick Jagger and Tina Turner put in a rather low-key (for them) performance. I'm not quite sure why Phil Collins decided to fly across the Atlantic, however. The finales at both Wembley and JFK left something to be desired. I could have done without Lionel Ritchie for one night. For inside info on the concert, see the current edition of _Rolling Stone_. Does anyone know why Julian Lennon failed to show up? His father would have been there. ----------- Come to the shell for answers. dwayne {akgua, ut-sally}!usl!dkl
