[comp.sys.mac.misc] Any GOOD reasons to buy Classic vs. Plus?

rsb5c@watt.acc.Virginia.EDU (Richard S. Bondi) (10/19/90)

A thread should be started on this subject. Here is my point: prices of used
Pluses are going to plummet to well under $500 when the Classic costing
$999.- retail, and God knows what on the street, comes out. 20MB
hardrives external can be had for just over&under $300, and 20MB is just
about all anyone who just needs a Plus or Classic, needs. In other words,
with external floppy dirves costing $200 mail order, used Pluses will be
priced to compete with Classic, and I can see no compelling reason to
spend more money on a Classic instead. Can anyone give me any? In particular,
instead of piling up scattered debating points on the net, can someone who
KNOWS post a table with Plus specs vs. Classic specs in two columns, so that	we all know what we are talking about? Thanks.

Good point, we've been discussing around the office recently....

This is certainly debatable. A few years ago, maybe, but user expectations
change with time. Anyway, one argument for the Classic is the fact that it
takes an *internal* hard drive. For about $300 you can buy a FAST (12ms)
40MB Quantum ProDrive.... sure beats a 40ms $300 external 20MB drive!

Regardless of whether you have a Plus or Classic, I would spend the extra
$100 and get some kind of external hard disk instead of the floppy.
