We don't have VAX 'definitions' for word. We also haven't touched
our 4.2 online man page for it. This is what it says in part:
3 The word of the system's per-process data area
corresponding to _a_d_d_r is returned. _A_d_d_r must be even
and less than 512. This space contains the registers
and other information about the process; its layout
corresponds to the _u_s_e_r structure in the system.

would you kindly get with the program, steve? i see you found paragraph 3 of the ptrace man page. now read the rest of it, in particular the paragraph that states, once again now, real slow-like, read my lips: On a VAX-11, "word" also means a 32-bit integer, but the "even" restriction does not apply. got that? peter
