My PLI 30 external HD barfed on me last weekend, and now it refuses to initialize. Actually, it initialized a couple of times, but shortly afterwords, about 3 reboots or so it refused to mount. Now, my formatting software won't even format it. Would it be better to send it back to PLI to get it repaired (it sounds like it would need the whole disk replaced) than to just buy a new 40 Meg Quantum for $300 (which would hold more than my old one, alot faster, and have a longer warranty)? Also, if I bought the new quantum internal, it is possible to install it in a Mac Plus, isn't it? Or if not, could I somehow replace the broken PLI assembly with the Quantum assembly inside my PLI 30's external case?
