[comp.sys.mac.misc] Snds and sounds...

jtgorman@cs.arizona.edu (Quaestor) (10/26/90)

Our demo area had the new Macs on display and we all had fun with the sound
grabbing capabilty of the MAc IIsi. I noticed that it makes the sounds as
a snd resource, so that means we can only use it as a Hypercard or system
sound.
My question : Is there any program that takes snds and changes them into
a format readable by SoundEdit and those cdev like SoundMaster that let you
assign sounds to various system tasks? I also like to be able to play my
sounds from a DA.

On the note of sound playing DA's, does anyone remember that DA that had
the choice of 'play them all'? I get tired of playing each one by selecting
it.

Yes. SoundCapMover 1.62 (part of the sound-mover package) can open
resource files and save individual sounds as data files. (One sound per
file.) It's available via anonymous ftp from sumex-aim.stanford.edu in
the /info-mac/sound/programs directory. It's shareware.

Woops. I goofed. SoundCapMover is in fact a HyperCard stack, designed
(I believe - don't hold me to this one!) to extract sounds from
HyperCard stacks. The program in the soundmover package is called
simply SoundMover. It works in a way similar to Font/DA Mover. Sorry
if I confused anyone...
