I'm looking for some information about a cdev called boomerang. I have found version 2.0 of it in the sumex archive, but also found 2.0b9 in some ftp archive elsewhere. I'm wondering if the 2.0b9 version is a later version than 2.0 or if its the other way around. If anybody could shed some light on this I would really appreciate it. Boomerang is going commercial. ZetaSoft will send the new, non- commercial version (2.1), if you pay your shareware fee. The turn around was very fast... (It took them about 5 days from when I mailed the check to send the upgrade to me -- although vagarities of international mail being what they are, it may take longer to get to NZ.). /s -- Alexander Erskine Wise /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\ Software Development Laboratory /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\ WISE@CS.UMASS.EDU /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\ \/\/\ This situation calls for large amounts of unadulterated CHOCOLATE! /\/\/\

And then sometime later you will receive Super Boomerang from Now Software (Super Boomerang is becoming part of the Now Utilities) Super Boomerang puts a menu bar across the top of the open dialog instead of the popup menu that Boomerang uses. Super Boomerang also has an incredibly fast "Find" function (many many times faster than Find File or Disktop's Find). It searched the 2000+ files on my hard disk in a few seconds. -David Hull

2.0 is the latest version of Boomerang. 2.0b9 is the ninth beta release for version 2.0. -- | Adam Talcott | Not a bad bit of rescuing, | | talcott@nunki.usc.edu | huh? In the mac world, you start with the version number you want (like 2.0) and add beta codes as you develop it (2.0b1 .. 2.0b3, etc). The final version just drops the beta codes and uses the number.

I just downloaded version 2.0.2 from America Online. I had just had version 2.0b9 (or was it b6? whatever.) crap out on me, and 2.0.2 appeared to be the newer version. What, by the way, is so much better about the commercial version that we should all run out and buy it? The nicest new feature in my opinion is that Boomerang 2.1 and higher modify the File menu so that 'Open' becomes a hierarchical menu listing the most recently listed files -- no need to deal with the 'Open' dialog at all! Super Boomerang replaces the boomerang icon in the Open dialog with a menu bar across the top -- easier on novice users certainly, but I'm not sure yet that I didn't prefer the icon. Super Boomerang's 'Find' feature is also reportedly 200% faster. If you registered for the shareware version, then you don't need to run out and buy anything -- they will send you Super Boomerang for free. If you are using the shareware version regularly and you haven't paid the shareware fee, shame on you. -- - Rich Holmes rich@suhep.bitnet Syracuse U. The two new things in the commercial version of Boomerang that I like best are the fact that it puts up a menu bar in the top of the SF dialog box (in earlier version you had to mouse click on the little icon to access the Boomerang menus) and (the one I really use a lot) the direct open feature which puts a list of recently opened files (or the ones you've made permanent) as a hierarchical popout to the open item on the file menu. This means you bypass the SF box altogether to open a file that Boomerang knows about (either because it was recently opened or because its been made permanent). Another new feature is keyboard access for anything and everything. -- Dana E. Keil Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics University of California, Berkeley dana@are.berkeley.edu
