Forgive me if this has been hashed around before, but I've gone back quite a ways looking. :-) Our lab Macs are losing files saved on floppies. It doesn't happen a lot, but to enough people, eliminating the "I goofed" errors. In detail : MAC II's, 1-2 Mb memory, 40 Mb HD, system 6.0.7, NO multifinder. No DA's except that wonderful Disinfectant 2.3 init. The problem : If you copy a folder from one floppy to another (or HD to floppy) the folder will appear on the desktop of the target floppy for an instant, then disappear. If you try to RECOPY it, it says there's a folder there that exists by that name already. If it's just files that disappear, it asks you if you want to over write them. Mactools deluxe will not find the files. 1st Aid HFS will find them and allow you to copy them off, but I'd like to solve the main question: Why is this happening? This has happened to about 15 people on 5 or 6 different machines over the last two weeks. Any ideas? This didn't happen, by the way, with system 6.0.5 so that's where my thoughts are heading.
