I'm new to using mac's in general and my department has given me a IIci to play with for the next few months. I've seen millions of mac users with a picture in the background behind their windows, so without regard to work I've been trying to do that with my machine. I've got a program called "backdrop" version 2.16 that says it will do it, and as far as I can tell, it tries. My test picture is just something I scribbled in macpaint and it does show it after the startup picture (also built with macpaint) but as soon as the desktop appears it is erased. Is there a program I can put in my system file that will put up a background picture on a mac ii (with color screen)?

Thanks to everybody who responded. I downloaded a program called "deskpicture 1.0" which will work on color screens. "Backdrop" I was told, only works on b&w screens. The only snag I ran into was that I don't know how to use ResEdit and the painting program I had didn't save the picture in the right format. So I had to use the program "giffer" to convert a PICT file to a Res=0 file. It works like a charm. Thanks again. ---------- David Ruby daver@ux1.cso.uiuc.edu University of Illinois "This calls for a special blend of psychology and extreme violence" vyvyan
