[comp.sys.mac.misc] Looking for a few good P D/Shareware programs.....

mike@ccs.cc.umich.edu (Mike Dautermann) (11/14/90)

Hello! I'm sure quite a number of you have received my "form letter"
that mentions the U-M Macintosh P D/Shareware archives.. but my mailbox
has been a bit empty lately and newer programs have been getting harder
to find, so I'll send this question to the group and see what kind of
response I get....

I help to organize and maintain a very large Mac archive on the U-M
mainframe consisting of Public Domain and Shareware programs, documents,
etc. The archive can be reached by anonymous FTP to UM-MTS.CC.UMICH.EDU
(the current IP address is 35.1.1.43, due to be changed sometime in the
next few months) or it's shadow archive UB-MTS.CC.UMICH.EDU (35.1.1.47).
The first thing you should do when you log in is to type CD PC2: (to
switch to the Mac directory), and the index of abstracts can be retrieved
by typing GET !INDEX. More detailed instructions on retrieving files
can be found by typing "GET DO/DOWNLOAD2 DOWNLOAD.TEXT".

We pretty much have everything the Sumex archives has, but we also have
literally a thousand or so files that you won't find on any other
prominent sites; so FTP'ing here might be a good alternative place to
look for Mac software, if you like to try new things.

I was wondering if any of you out there on the net have discovered
any programs, resources, -- anything PD or Shareware -- on those pay-as-
you-download services like GEnie, America Online & Compu$erve.. that
you feel might be useful being added to an Internet site.. if you can
upload a copy of the program and mail it along to me at
UserW72N@um.cc.umich.edu, it'd be very much appreciated.

Let me know what you think of the archives, any suggestions, ideas,
programs.. I like to correspond with fellow mac enthusiasts, so
feel free to write pages of text to me. Thanks for your help...

.
