[comp.sys.mac.misc] TidBITS#30/Xanadu_special

pv9y@vax5.cit.cornell.edu (11/22/90)

Editors' note: This issue of TidBITS is a special issue
reporting on the progress and philosophy of Ted Nelson's mind-
stretching Xanadu project. We say mind-stretching because Nelson's
ideas range far from the mainstream while at the same time
retaining a compelling lucidity. It is our opinion that Xanadu, if
it ever comes out, will truly change the face of computing (and a
hell of a lot of other things too) as we know it. This is good. So
read on, enjoy yourself, and soak in the possibilities of Xanadu.

Anyone who is interested in writing other special issues should
contact us at one of the electronic addresses below. If the topic
is appropriate we are likely to agree to it. (More information on
TidBITS is at the end of this file.)

What Is TidBITS?
TidBITS is an electronic journal that records, summarizes, and
references interesting information concerning the computer
industry with an emphasis on the Macintosh specifically. Currently
TidBITS is only distributed in its HyperCard reader stack format
(this special issue being an exception); however we soon hope to
be moving to a text-only format for the convenience of readers not
using the Macintosh or HyperCard.

An issue of TidBITS comes out early each week and summarizes
news from the previous week. Monthly archives of the weekly stacks
will be available in the middle of the following month for those
who miss the initial weekly stacks. Special issues and reviews
will also become available periodically. TidBITS is currently
available for anonymous FTP at sumex-aim.stanford.edu,
rascal.ics.utexas.edu, America Online, CompuServe, Genie, and from
the Memory Alpha BBS in Ithaca, NY at (607) 257-5822. Server sites
on Bitnet are also available - send electronic mail for more
information. Additional sites may be added at a later date.
