[comp.sys.mac.misc] ImageWriter I, SE/30, 512K problems.

R1F@psuvm.psu.edu (11/24/90)

I am having hardware and or software problems with my father's
ImageWriter I printer. Any help netters could render would be greatly
appreciated.

My address : FRAUTSCHI@MPS.OHIO-STATE.EDU

I will be at my father's through 25 November:

Please send replies to R1F until the 25th. If there are many
replies/sympathies I will post a summary.

Printer: ImageWriter I
CPU: Mac 512K, 2 400K drives (Dad's), finder 5.3, System ?.?.?
CPU: SE/30 5Meg, 40MB, (mine) finder 6.1.5, System 6.0.5

History: When my father bought the Imagewriter, and his 512K Mac, he
received some version of Macwrite. The printer worked. Several years
later, he brought home a newer version of Macwrite, which could interface
with the printer (type unknown) at his office. At that time the
Imagewriter failed to function, and has not worked since.

This thanksgiving, I brought my SE/30, and sat down with his Imagewriter
manual (Part I: reference, cannot locate other parts). As far as I can
tell, both DIP switches are in their standard, default positions. The
printer PASSES its internal self-test.

Symptom: There is no response of any kind when a print command is issued
from several applications on the SE/30 (Macwrite II, TeXtures, etc.)
This is the same case for Macwrite on the 512K, I am told.

Apology: I am sorry that this description of the problem is incomplete.
I can try and gain additional information (e.g. Macwrite version numbers,
for the "History:" section above) but this will take time.

Request: Any information directed toward getting this printer operational
with either machine, with some idea of the costs, would be greatly
appreciated. My father is considering upgrading (to an LC), if he could
regain the use of his old printer, that would be a strong inducement.

										                    Sincerely,

                              Mark Frautschi
