Apple has an LC with an 030 and a price increase. It's called the II si.
$4-500 is not unreasonable for a 20 mhz 030 and Nubus expansion. At educational
pricing, that is the difference. (That is guessing the LC edu. price to be about $2000.00).

Close to current technology? Any dos machine you buy will most probably run
MS/DOS with a shell of some sort (Win 3). Any way you look at it MS/DOS is
still not that different than it was in 1981. That isn't current by any
standard.

I am sick of DOS people's malformed arguements for DOS over Mac:

1. Price
-System to system the new macs can't be matched. (unless you want a cheap
XT for straight text crunching)

2. Software/Compatibility
-DOS people say "There are two DOS packages for every mac packages". True but
East Germany made a lot of cars too. Neither would I like to use.
-If you insist on using DOS software, buy SoftPC for <$300. Let's see:
Mac Software + MS/DOS Software = most software available. I am telling my
friends to buy LC's as "the ultimate DOS clone".
*Add the //e card for the LC and you have the largest software base of any PC
in the world.
{Amiga people, let's qualify that by counting ability to run color}

3. Speed
-A Mac LC blows away most clones running Windows apps. Ingram/Micro D has
done extensive tests of the LC and a PS/2 model 70. In real life tasks (read:
windows), the LC was always faster.
-Mhz does not mean speed. The 8 mhz 68000 Classic is faster than a 12 or 16 mhz
80286 clone running real world apps.

4. Windows
-No matter how many times you say "Windows is Mac", it isn't true. The most
important difference is that you can't double click data files and have the
ap open up. It only deals with aps.
-Windows is SLOW. It runs almost acceptably on a 4 megabyte system, but not as
fast as macs.

5. Misc.
-Macs don't have 640k barrier
-Good software is here, not "coming soon"
-All macs have built in networking and SCSI

Many people love macs. And now they can afford them.

If fact other than the Amiga for video production and the NeXT, I can't see a
reason to buy any other personal computer.

*Responses to the last statement are welcome.
