[comp.sys.mac.misc] Mail files to my friend

faust@brahms.udel.edu (David P Faust) (11/29/90)

I'll try and make this as quick as possible. My friend goes to school at
Cornell and his mainframe account is on a VMS machine. I am at Delaware
on a UNIX machine. Can I mail him files? They would have to be in .hqx
form for unix to like them (I think). Will VMS accept .hqx? Can he mail
files to me? Anyone out there had any experience with this one? On a
similiar subject: Is there any way he can ftp from his machine? I don't think
he can. If this is posted in the wrong place please tell me where I could get
more help. Thanks for your time.

Yes, we VAX/VMS people can talk to all you UNIX people. We can
sens/receive files to/from UNIX machines. We do understant *.hqx
and *.sit files. *.shar files, are however a problem.
My VAX/VMS has both ftp and telenet systems. Not all do.

I went to Cornell also, and am familiar with their Vax/VMS machine.
I FTP'ed all the time out to Stanford "sumex-aim" and it worked fine. And all
the files on the mainframe at Cornell were stored in .hqx format, so no
problem there.

I'm not sure how to mail files, but there has to be a way to attach files to
an e-mail, I would think.
