I recently downloaded "Uudecode" for the mac and tried to convert some .gif files I had obtained from Usenet. These files on usenet have been encoded by uuencode on probably a Sun, HP, or other Unix platform. This encoding allows the transfer of the .gif as an ascii file. I transfer this file to my mac, then ran the Mac version of "Uudecode" on it. It doesn't complain at all but when I try to view the resulting .gif file using GIFConverter or Giffer, they both say the file is not a valid gif file. I thought they were the problem but when I found that both complain with the same message, I then suspected the gif file. I then downloaded a .gif file directly from AOL and tried viewing it with GIFConverter and Giffer and both could view it. So I now know the viewers are ok. I have tried several uuencoded files and all result the same way. Any ideas on what I am doing wrong? Is the Mac version of UUDECODE broken? Have others gotten it to work?? --Bruce -- *** These are my opinions and not necessarily those of MGC *** Bruce Holm / (503) 626-7000 Mentor Graphics Corp. / USENET: bruceh@pdx.mentor.com Beaverton, OR 97005-7191 / UUCP: ...!uunet!mntgfx!bruceh
