Did anyone keep the article about this ftp site around? I had it long enough to download the list of stuff that they have. Of course, with my foresite I got rid of the article right after I downloaded the list and now that I want to get some of the programs there I can't figure out exactly what commands to type where. I tried the cd PC2 thing. After that, I tried to get some files and I couldn't do it. Anyone still have the original post (I also have forgotten which group I saw it on.). I would really appreciate help on this one because they have some really good stuff. Thanks for your help. Dave faust@brahms.udel.edu or faust@freezer.it.udel.edu

The secret to getting files from um archive: as described in original msg, FTP, log in anonymously, cd PC2:, then... get path/filename.remote filename.local for example, get do/download2 download.txt you must specify a local filename or error msg Good luck! Stephen

I tried the cd PC2 thing. After that, I tried to get some > files and I couldn't do it ... We had the same problem here. We could get the list of files just fine but couldn't get any of the files themselves. The problem is so simple that it took us a couple of weeks to figure it out. After you log in as anonymous, type CD PC2: to switch into the Mac directory. Next type MGET !INDEX to get the list of available software. Read through this list and find out what you want. Now to get the file (INIT/SHUTITOFF for example) type GET INIT/SHUTITOFF SHUTITOFF. This will get the file from um-mts.cc.umich.edu and save it on your end as "shutitoff". You must you GET and not MGET! The problem is this: If you wanted to get the above file and typed MGET INIT/SHUTITOFF, the remote end would find the file in it's directory listing but would not be able to create it on your end. This is because it tries to create a file called "init/shutitoff" which it cannot do since what that would mean is creating a file called "shutitoff" in the directory called "init". FTP cannot create the new directory automatically, so the transfer fails. Hope this solves your problems.
