carl@tardis.Tymnet.COM (Carl Baltrunas) (12/15/90)
Sorry about the cross-posting, but I want to reach as many "knowledgeable"
people in the shortest time.
I have a disk partitioned with silverlining from LaCie and one of my 40Meg
partitions was damaged. Silverlining told me that continuing might make it
worse, and I didn't listen. It's worse.
When I go into silverlining to mount the partition, it says it is OK. BUT,
when I exit to finder (running without multi-finder) I get the message:
Not enough finder memory to handle disk "grumpy"
This is not the "Out of Finder Memory" message I posted about earlier this
week. I've tried using multi-finder and increasing the finder memory in the
about box, from 320 (160 won't handle multiple partitions) to 512, 1024 or
even as high as 4096.
I need a tool that will check the partition or repair a damaged disk structure
on a partition without mounting it for the finder. There appear to be a few
repair programs available that will work on a damaged floppy, but nothing that
I've been able to locate that will repair a SCSI disk partition.
As a last resort, I am prepared to simply backup the rest of the partitions and
reformat and rebuild the system... but that takes 6 hours of inserting 1.44M
floppies to backup and restore the system, not counting reloading/re-installing
system software and formatting the disk.
ANYONE WITH HELPFUL INFO, PLEASE EMAIL to carl@tardis.tymnet.com as soon as
possible. I can download any PD tools you can name from Sumex or other any
otehr FTP site, or you can mail me a binhex'ed (and stuffit/compactor) file
and I can install it and try it out.
