[comp.sys.mac.misc] How does Macintalk work?

dce@smsc.sony.com (David Elliott) (12/21/90)

Does anyone have information on how Macintalk works? It would
be especially useful to find some code, but even a pointer to
the algorithms would be useful.

brentb@nuchat.sccsi.com (Brent Burton) (12/24/90)

The last time Macintalk was brought up, I read that Apple did not write
it, another company did (I don't know who). But, by way of legal terms,
Apple does not have the source code for it and they have decided not to
support it.
IMHO, it's a shame Apple doesn't recreate it - rewrite it, add new
features, etc. With all the talk about "hypermedia" (I just went to a
conference on it) and the continued talk of handicapped users' access,
it seems quite logical to support speech. Nearly every micro computer
out there has some speech capability (my old TI/994a had it, geez).

With Apple's Jean L.G. and his "vision" of multimedia products, where
is the substance (hypercard doesn't cut it)?
