mmira@gouldfr.UUCP (Michel Mirabella) (01/03/91)

Hello, I'm looking for a project planning generator running under Macintosh.
If there is any known references and/or comments on the subject please let
me know.

Thanks in advance.

I have been using MacProject more or less since the original version
came out, and I still haven't found anything to beat it fot the kind
of projects I work on. It has been updated several times over the
years, and is now called MacProject II. The version I have was written
by Claris, but I believe they are now part of Apple again (?), so I
don't know what name they are using now.

The package basically uses the critical path method, but will also
provide Gantt charts, if you like these. The version I have came with
a plotter driver, which gives nice charts, in colour (e.g. critical
path is shown in red). The plotter driver handles a large selection of
plotters.

I find the human interface very good (what else would you expect from
a Mac, I guess) and the choice of charts useful. It allows
sub-projects, back-scheduling, load levelling and multiple calendars,
to name but a few features. Any Apple dealer should have a demo
available and the software come with a nice example project and a
Hypercard instructional stack. Make the dealer leave you alone with it
for a while so that you can explore it thoroughly. Project management
packages are very personal things, so you want to be sure you will be
happy with it before coughing up some hundreds for the package.

Hope this helps.
