My friend recently bought a Mac LC. I had been told that they came with 4 bit color. When she brought it back to school, it was running 8 bit. She did not buy the video upgrade or anything. Is there any explanation for this? She is definitly not complaining about this, but I am curious. BTW: I think the LC is a nice machine for its purpose. The new 12" monitor is also looks very good. Just a couple of questions for the net. Thanks, Dave faust@freezer.it.udel.edu

The stock LC supports 8-bit color (512x384) with the new 12" RGB monitor, 4-bit grayscale (640x480) with the new 12" monochrome monitor, and 4-bit color (640x480) with the 13" RGB monitor. With the 512K VRAM SIMM it will support 16-bit color with the 12" RGB monitor and 8-bit color/grayscale with the other two monitors. Paul Wenker prw@apple.com

The standard LC can run 8 bit on the 12" monitor, but only 4 bit on the 13" monitor. -- Matthew T. With the hi-res monitor, you only get 4-bit mode. With additional video RAM the hi-res monitor will run in 8-bit mode and the new monitor in 16-bit mode.
