[comp.sys.mac.misc] Orange Micro Grappler 9-pin parallel printer adaptor cable

sead142@ut-emx.uucp (Larry Smith) (01/06/91)

a new printer if I can get away with using my old one, a NEC
PC-8023A-C.
I have a brouchure from Orange Micro describing their Grappler 9-Pin
parallel printer adaptor cable that is supposed to transparently
translate Imagewriter II commands into commands that other 9-pin
printers can understand. I would like to hear from anyone who has
such a set up. Are you pleased with it? Is the print quality as
good as an imagewriter? Is the speed degraded?

Thanks in advance,

Larry Smith

I had one for a year - until I was able to acquire a LaserWriter.
The Grappler does a quite fair job of imitating an ImageWriter - a
good way to avoid buying an ImageWriter and saving some $$$$.

BUT - it is SLOW. Set up a page of text to print at best quality,
then go and watch a TV show while it prints. But with the cost of
PostScript laser printers falling, it made sense to me to skip buying
an ImageWriter and get by on the Grappler until I could afford a
PostScript laser printer. When I had to generate a lot of letters one
week, I just rented an ImageWriter to save hours of output time.
