[net.followup] Handguns, mob rule, and Granny Smith

Following up on Mark Rowe's hypothetical situation:

It seems likely to me that if Grandma Smith does indeed keep
a gun in her cozy little home, the result will be that possession
will be transferred to the hypothetical juvenile delinquent who
might just be smart enough to wait until Granny makes her weekly
trip to the bingo game, then break into her house. Now we
have an armed juvenile delinquent roaming the neighborhood.
Does anybody have any figures on the number of handguns stolen
each year? I suspect that this might be a major source of guns
for illegal use.
