I came in this weekend to find some very strange things happening on my Mac. A application called "edit" (a pretty bare-bones ASCII editor) was started, but the menus wouldn't appear, and it wouldn't respond to key commands, either. I finally had to restart using the button. When I restarted, an init called "Ed (Not)" started (there was an icon). I've never seen this init before, and I have no idea how it got on my machine (I didn't run "edit" either, so someone must have gotten to my machine). Get Info tells me that Ed (Not) is version 1.0d0, copyright Apple Computer. Does anyone know what this init does? Is the problem with "edit" related to this thing? I took it out of my system folder, of course, but I'd like to know what it did. Thanks for any help. Steve sritter@psy.cmu.edu
