[comp.sys.mac.misc] PostScript importing

jclesius@bbn.com (Jeff Clesius) (02/01/91)

Greetings,

I would like to be able to include encapsulated PostScript files
created on a Sun workstation into PowerPoint running on a Mac
by using the 'Paste from' function. The problem is that although
the encapsulated PostScript file transfers correctly from the Sun,
it does not have the right file type ('EPSF'), nor does it have
a resource fork.

The file type can be changed using utilities, and as a result,
the file will then appear in the 'Paste from' file selection menu.
However, when attempting to load the file, PowerPoint claims that
a portion of the contents of the file is missing. I am assuming,
and quite possibly incorrectly so, that the resource fork needs to
be present for it to load. I have substantiated this by creating
an EPSF file on the Mac and successfully loading it into PowerPoint.
The only apparent difference between the file which loads and the
one that doesn't is the presence/absence of the resource fork.

Questions:

1. Has anyone else been able to paste encapsulated PostScript files
in PowerPoint that have been created on a Sun, or other external
   (non-Mac) source?

2. Is it the absence of the resource fork that PowerPoint is
   objecting to?

3. Is there a simple way to create a satisfactory resource fork, e.g.,
a public domain resource tool or program?

4. Has anyone automated the transfer and conversion process (changing
the file type and adding a resource fork) into a single simple step?

Any information in regards to the above would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
