[comp.sys.mac.misc] Compacter Pro

waire@seas.gwu.edu (Timothy A. Waire Jr.) (02/01/91)

Ok guys and gals, sorry for the all the cross-post but I wanted to make sure I
got everybody. Please remember that this is a $25 shareware product.

I was perusing the local bulletin board and found that Compacter Pro had just
been uploaded. I snatched it and sent it forth to sumex-aim (36.44.0.6).

Here is a list of all the new features as found in the Release Note:

* New Features *

% Double-clicking archives in Finder with Option key extracts all contents

% Double-clicking filenames in catalog window extracts files

% Segment command divides archives into fixed-size segments

% BinHex4 encoding/decoding

% Report command generates text file summary of archive contents

% Maximum number of items in a folder increased to 1500

% Maximum length of passwords increased to 99 characters

% Self-extracting archives prompt for destination folder when extracted

% Option to automatically validate after saving

% Reduced system requirements Q requires System 4.2 and Mac 512KE (with 1 MByte memory) or higher

* Incompatibilities With Earlier Releases *

Two of the new features of Compact Pro may cause compatibility problems with older versions of Compactor.

% If you create an archive which has a folder with more than 300 items, older versions of Compactor will not be able to open the archive.

% Older versions of Compactor will not be able to decrypt any files which are encrypted with passwords longer than 8 characters.

* AppleShare Problem *

There is a known problem using Compact Pro 1.30 with some versions of AppleShare file servers. Under some circumstances, adding files from an AppleShare file server will only insert blank filenames in the archive. This does not result in any corruption of either the AppleShare files or the Compact Pro archive, but the desired files will not be stored in the archive (an error will be reported when the archive is saved).

********************************End of Release Note****************************

Well I guess since the new version is finally out it's time to shell out the
$25 registration fee.

Enjoy!--
