I was wondering if anyone else noticed the full page add in the March MacUser about the new 50 MHz 68040 that are available now. The company is called Venture Technologies. I thought this add was interesting because I didn't think they had faster than a 25MHz 68040. According to the add, it will work on the //ci and Mac LC. It will increase speed to 12 times that of a //fx! They don't quote a price unfortunately.... Steve -hasses@prism.cs.orst.edu

To the best of my recollection this is what I was told. The 50Mhz '040's were really not ready and might ship in spring or summer...but you can bye an '030 upgrade (don't recall clock speed) and recieve fullcredit on the '040's when available. That is , you send back your 'o30 upgrade and they send you the '040 one for their price, less what you paid for the first upgrade. I asked for some written info and specs on performance and compatibility (not recieved yet). Sounds like a tease to me. I spoke to Daystar and they said theirs would not be out until summer, some time after Apple's "Tower" ships. Seems as though they are worried about some software compatibility issues with the new u-processor and want to see how it pans out before committing. -GSM Anyone hear differently?
