Would someone be kind enough to explain to me how to display giff pictures on my macintosh. I have 3 programs which display giffs (Giffer,Quick Giff, and GiffConvert 2.1) and also an uuencode program called UUtool. I have had particular difficulty with multi part pictures (those posted here in many parts). Most of the time when i UUdecode I get missing end errors (or something like that). I'm not sure if the problem is in the file transfer or in the decoding process. I have been transferring these files in text mode, since when people post them they are in text. I would assume if I were to ftp them I might want to download in binary mode. Thanks for the help. Josh (jb3yrhmc@miamiu.bitnet or jb3yrhmc@miamiu.acs.muohio.edu)

For GIF files on ftp sites: ftp them as binary files, then kermit them (or whatever protocol you use) on to your Mac as binary. Giffer, the viewer I use, lets you open any file as long as it's a true GIF file. With the other viewers, you may have to do some type/creator changes. For GIF files that someone mails you (or posts to the nets): they usually come uuencoded. UUdecode them on your Unix machine (but strip the header first in your text editor), and then kermit them (again, in binary mode) to your Mac, and so on. Hope this helps.
