[comp.sys.mac.misc] Powerkey and Teleport compatibility problems

rjacks@austlcm.sps.mot.com (rodney jacks/vlk9) (02/09/91)

I recently purchased a Teleport modem from Global Village and encountered
a compatibility problem with it and my Powerkey (by Sophisticated Circuits).
There seems to be considerable interest in the Teleport recently so I thought
I would post so that anyone who is considering purchasing one may avoid the
problem and/or save some time isolating the problem.

The problem I experienced was that the Teleport would not work with the
Powerkey installed. With the Powerkey removed the modem worked just
fine. When booting my SE30, there was no indication of any INIT
conflict. Both the Teleport and the Powerkey require an INIT to
be installed in order to operate.

With the help of Sophisticated Circuits' Customer Support (Thanks -
Charles and Amar -- Its nice to find customer support people who
are actually helpful) the problem was found to be the 6.0.4 MacOS I
was running on my machine. Apparently Version 6.0.5 fixed a lot
of ADB bugs. After installing 6.0.5 everything works fine.

So if you are considering purchasing the Teleport make sure you
are running release 6.0.5!

SIDE NOTE:
Global Village also documented a similar conflict with Teleport
and Powerkeys with serial numbers below 3000 (mine is SN#4905).
Sophisticated Circuits will replace the earlier Powerkeys with a
 later model.
