There's an application called SoundMaster that does just what you're
looking for <it does even more> With it, you can add sounds close to
everything you do on the Mac.

Actually, I think there are some types of files (of PD beep sounds) that
SoundMaster does not recognize. I think SuitcaseII can open these files and
add them to the list in the Sounds CDEV.

Or you can buy a IIsi or LC with the microphone and record your own
sounds. :-)

I'm not sure whether this kind of thing is a boon or bane. One guy
here recorded "I tried to think, but nothing happened." Cute once, but
as a system beep, it gets very old very fast.

What, you don't have one of the randomizers like BeepShuffle, SwitchBeep
or SndControl??!! You deserve to be bored ;-) !

What mr Wiggins wants is rather SoundMover. It is similar to Font/DA mover
but deals with sounds. It can open many kinds of sound files, including the
ones you find in the archives. It has been seen under the name Sound Manager
Package, too.

I must agree with another posting that it can be very annoying
to have silly beep sounds, especially long ones, but I do like "Ni!" (from
Monthy Python/Holy Grail) and some other short ones. SoundMaster (or
SoundControl, which comes with SoundMover) are awful when misused, but we
have the right to customize our systems as we like. You know, some people
even have brightly colored menu bars and scrollbars without getting sick...
However, putting SoundManager in another persons Mac with a 10 second sound
on "key klick" is sabotage.
