Help! I help maintain a computer lab with several Mac II's. The 40 meg hard drives are partitioned into a 15 and 25 meg partition (using La Cie's Silverlining software). The 25 meg partition is locked using Silver Volumes. The other partition serves as a "work area" where users can copy their files. This morning we discovered that somebody was able to write- protect the "root directory" of the work area volume. No folders can be created nor files copied to in the main window (root) of this volume. However, none of the folders inside the main window are write-protected!! You can create folders and copy files inside the subfolders of the main window but not on the main window itself!!! We tried starting up from a floppy but the damn thing is still write-protected. There is an icon of a pencil with a slash (indicating write-protection) that appears on the top left side of the main window of the work area. It does not appear in any of the folders inside the window. My questions are 1.) does anybody out there know what software was used to write-protect the main window? and 2.) can you remove this write-protection without reformatting the hard drive? I appreciate any suggestions. Thanks in advance. -- puzzled in long beach please email responses to: -- =========================================================================== Mig Gomez mig@beach.csulb.edu CSULB Main Library Computer Lab mig@aardvark.cse.csulb.edu
