This update now includes decompression times as requested by various people, and replaces the previous issue completely. If you are in charge of a site that keeps TidBITS files or keep your personal TidBITS Archive up to date, please delete the previous version and replace it with this one. Sorry for the inconvenience and we hope the additional information is worth your effort. Have you been confused by the numerous options you have these days for compressing and decompressing files? Have you received files in a format that you can't decode? Have you been wondering which of the various compression programs creates the smallest archives? Which is the quickest? Which you should buy? Well we can't answer all your questions, but we hope that this special issue of TidBITS, researched and written by Ken Hancock, will help clear the air.
