[comp.sys.mac.misc] Capturing Postscript output from the LaserWriter Driver

ahby@uiunix.UI.ORG (Shane McCarron) (02/25/91)

I have a quick question about capturing Postscript output from the
LaserWriter driver. I know that I can press 'f' and have a file
called Postscriptn created in the current directory. However, this
file does not seem to have all of the information necessary for
printing the objects in, say, a Powerpoint slide. I also know that I
can press 'k' and presumably get something different. However, when I
press either of these I seem to get the same thing.

What do I need to do to capture all of the information that would have
been sent to the LaserWriter?

Please respond directly to me. I don't subscribe to this newsgroup.

A related question is how to capture Postscript when you
do not have a laserwriter hooked up to your Appletalk
port.
I have an Imagewriter on my desk, but on another machine
(non-Mac) to which I can serially communicate there is a
PostScript printer. I would like to capture postscript
output, send it over to that other system, and execute a
"transparent" print to the laserprinter.

If this is not now in FAQ, it should be.

You do not need a LaserWriter to print PostScript to disk. You merely
need the LaserWriter driver and LaserWriter Prep. Use Chooser to
select the LaserWriter driver, and Page Setup... to alert the app
that the printer has changed, and then command-F or command-K as
usual. Remember the remote LaserWriter (or Lino or ...) must have
the save prep loaded, or else you will have to reset it (and use
your command-K prepared file).
