I'm having a problem printing Illustrator files to my QMS PS-410
Printer. I'm using Illustrator 3.0, and Mac OS 6.0.7. I've tried both
Laserprep 5.2 and 6.1 (with the corresponding LaserWriter files) and I get
the same problem. When I print graphics only it works, when I print text
only or mixed text and graphics I get a blinking error light and optional
tray light on the printer (I do not have the optional paper tray installed.
All my other programs work OK. I have tried printing Illustrator 88 files
from Illustrator 3.0 with the same results. I even saved an Illustrator
file and put it into DesignStudio and it still did the same thing, error
and optional tray kept blinking. DesignStudio prints other stuff OK
though.
I am using a Mac IIcx with Multifinder and 5 meg RAM. I tried
both regular printing and background printing using Printmonitor but no
luck. I have a bunch of INITs but before disabling them all, I thought
I'd ask the wisepeople on the net for any similar experiences.
I am using ATM 2.0 that came with Illustrator, and I am using
Suitcase II. I tried with Suitcase opening the fonts and with the fonts
installed in the system, but no luck.
Thanks,
Mario

Solution found: I called Adobe today, they told me that the problem is in the firmware of the PS-410. I called QMS and they verified the problem. Early printers had ROMs that did not support a certain command that Adobe Illustrator 3.0 was using. QMS is shipping new ROMs to me. I had a very early version of the printer...serial number is 0000377. My firmware revision was 1.0, the new firmware should bring my machine up to 7.0.
