More HD questions:
I had originally thought that Conner made all of the IIsi drives, but I
may be wrong. This weeks issue of MacWeek mentions power probs with drives.
Notably, there was mention that Apple still sources Quantum 40s. Except, that
since the Classic cuts it so close on power, the forcibly slow it down to 22 ms
access as well as limiting it a little on startup. So, guess maybe it;s not
all Conners...
As for the 80 or 105 Quantums, well they seem to be fine drives, both
of them. I really don't get the price difference, guess you'll have to call
the mail order place. But the only really noisy drive I've ever encountered is
the Apple/Jasmine 20. Both of these drives were based on Miniscribe
mechanisms and they are NOISY. But I like. It's sort of, well, reassuring.
Oh yeah, this is not always the case. Apple sourced it's 20s from all over,
but it seems that the externals were mostly the noisy ones (5-6 I've seen), and
I know Jasmine had Rodimes, but I go lucky and recieved one of the *better*
minisccribes. No probs so far. I can't say the same for the Berkeley Classics
Dept...
