[comp.sys.mac.misc] Fixing MaxAppleZoom 1.3 for 7.0 Pt. 2

klingspo@mozart.cs.colostate.edu (Steve Klingsporn) (03/17/91)

Hello.

A while back, I suggested a rather radical means for making
MaxAppleZoom 1.3 compatible with developer betas of System 7.0.
I'd like to suggest an alternative means.

Using ResEdit 2.1, if you try to open the 'cicn' resource, you
bomb. This must indicate that there is a problem with the 'cicn' that
is not noticed by the System in 6.0.x.

Therefore, do the following:

1. Open the 'icl8' for MAZ, and hit command-a.
2. Hit command-c to copy the bitmapped (PICT) image of the icon.
3. Go back to the root window, and delete the 'cicn' icon.
4. Type command-k to create a new resource. Enter 'cicn' in the field.
5. Type command-k to create a new 'cicn' resource.
6. Type command-v to paste the PICT into the window.
7. Go back, and similarly copy the B&W 'icn#' into the "B&W" section
of the 'cicn' window.
8. Copy the same image into the mask & black it out (There is a bug
in 7.0/ResEdit 2.1 with the masks that you'll notice).
9. Close all windows, open 'cicn,' and make "128" into "-4096."

That's all you have to do. You may find that putting it into the
Extensions folder and making an alias into the Control Panels folder
so that MaxAppleZoom loads in first (for aesthetic reasons).

Have fun,

Steve
