[comp.sys.mac.misc] Need info on disturbing signs on Jasmine HD

gft_robert@gsbacd.uchicago.edu (opcode ranger) (03/19/91)

I have a Jasmine DD100 (100 MB) hard disk, which is partitioned into 5
partitions using Jasmine DriveWare. Recently I've been getting more and more
"Undeletable Folders".

Also, the following has been happening in the past couple of months: sometimes
when I eject a floppy, I get "please insert disk" messages, but they reference
my partitions. That is, I might eject disk "floppy one" and I will get a
message "please insert disk 'Hard Disk Partition One'".

Are any of these signs that my disk is preparing to go south? (i.e., is the
file map, or whatever, getting hosed?) Should I re-format just to be sure
(it's better for me to reformat now and backup from floppy than to wait until I
have to). This is particularly so since I have access to a CD-ROM reader this
weekend and want to copy some stuff to my HD, probably more than I can
reasonably back up.

My Jasmine DriveWare reports no bad sectors, so I don't think any hardware is
wrong.

I'm using the Jasmine driver that came with my disk two years ago: 1.094.
Should I get new drivers? If so, does anyone out there have them?

Any advice? I'm enclosing a MacEnvy system report at the end of this note. (I
have 15 MB RAM since I'm using Virtual; I have 5 MB 'real' RAM).

Please reply ASAP. Any info much appreciated!

Robert
