[comp.sys.mac.misc] Startup wierdness with external CDC SCSI drive.

psg@philabs.philips.com (03/19/91)

Here's the situation. I have a Mac Plus with a Radius accelerator and
a CDC Wren 94171 SCSI drive connected to the SCSI port(SCSI ID 6). I
installed 6.07 on the Wren, did a Set-Startup and Restarted. The
machine doesn't boot off the Wren. I can see the drive being polled
periodically since its LED flashes. However, if I now put in a floppy,
the machine boots and properly installs the Wren on the desktop. Files
on the Wren can be accessed, manipulated, etc. . If I eject the
floppy, point at the finder on the Wren and do a "option-clover-double
click" it makes the Wren the start-up disk, and installs the
collection of Cdevs from the Wren. However, none of the Inits from the
system folder are installed. Everything is properly terminated. There
are no conflicts that I can see.

So the questions are:

1. What, if anything am I doing wrong here?
2. How can I force the Mac to boot off the Wren?
3. If #2 is not possible how can I force the Inits on the Wren to be
loaded when I change the startup disk with the option-clover-double
click sequence?
4. Is there something that prevents a Mac Plus from booting off the
SCSI port?

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Please e-mail or post;
whichever is most convenient.
