I downloaded System 6.0.7 and TrueType from apple.com a couple of days back. Mostly I'm quite happy with it, but I tripped over something odd when printing. The setup I have here is a Mac SE/30 connected via serial line to a DECStation 5200 running Ultrix 4.0. The default laser printer is a NEC SilentWriter S60P. I use 'macps' to preprocess PS files before printing. I uploaded LaserPrep and stored it as a 'macps' ProcSet. Then I generated PostScript for a Microsoft Word document and uploaded that, then ran it through macps. The DECStations have an Adobe standard PostScript previewer for use with X windows, so I previewed the document. Looked fine. Printing to the SilentWriter gave : response: %%[ Error: invalidaccess; OffendingCommand: setdefaulttimeouts ]%% response: %%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%% I commented out the following lines in the uploaded LaserPrep : wtkey{statusdict begin/setdefaulttimeouts where{pop 0 60 300 setdefaulttimeouts}if end}if and everything works. I suspect that I shouldn't have to do this (!). Is there an easier way to get PostScript from the mac to a laser printer on a Unix box ? I heard some comments about a 'Print To File' button in the LaserWriter Print box, but I didn't see anything.... Thanks for any help, Stewart ps Thanks to the guys who run the ftp service at apple.com ! -- sfleming@cs.hw.ac.uk ...ukc!cs.hw.ac.uk!sfleming "Every political/monetary/computer system is doomed to collapse; the trick is not being there when it happens."
