Hi all, I'm not sure if this is the correct group to post this question to, so please bear with me... 8) I've been having a very strange problem over the last couple of days that perhaps someone can shed some light upon. I'm currently running a Mac Plus (platinum) with 4 megs of RAM, and system 6.0.5. I've got a 65meg external hard drive. The inits I generally run are After Dark 2.0t, MacsBug (not really an init, I know) version 6.0 or 6.1 (I'm not sure which), and the Disinfectant 2.4 init. I used to run GateKeeper and GateKeeper Aid as well as SuperClock sometimes. Anyway, here's the problem. I installed Thunder 7 on Tuesday night, (the interactive spell checker init) and, upon restarting the machine, the After Dark Init had an 'x' through it. I figured it was an init incomplatibility. I removed Thunder, but After Dark still had the 'x'. Gads, I thought. Thunder's corrupted After Dark. So I reinstalled After Dark from my LOCKED ORIGINAL floppy. Still had the 'x'. At this point I started to suspect corrupt system software. So I reinstalled system 6.0.5 from locked original floppies using the installer. You guessed it, AD still had the 'x'. I also noticed that when I would go into Excel 2.2 and choose the file menu, the entire screen would go completely white until I released the mouse button. Also the menu item font wasn't always Chicago! Sometimes Geneva, sometimes some other font that I didn't recognize. Since reinstalling the system software didn't fix it, I figured that it must be low level corruption. So I booted from floppy, dragged the hard drive system folder to the trash, restarted, and reinstalled system software. This seemed to clear up the problem. However, now I notice some of my programs are behaving differently. My copy of ResEdit 2.1, which formerly could access Finder resources from MultiFinder, suddenly can't. Was ResEdit behaving correctly before, or now? Also Font/DA Mover 3.8 suddenly has problems trying to copy more than about 400k of fonts into the system file under MultiFinder. This wouldn't alarm me, except that it used to not have the problem... Also, my roommate is a Systems Administrator of Macs locally. He's noticed the problem on his machines as well. The only common denominator we've been able to find is System 6.0.5, Mac pluses, and a DA called TouchBase that we both bought at MacWorld SF. Any suggestions? Are there any known incompatibilities between 6.0.5 and Pluses? Perhaps I should go back to 6.0.3. It seems to be the last version that worked correctly on a Plus. (I had BIG problems with 6.0.4) I don't even want to think about 6.0.7! 8) Anyway, any ideas would be appreciated. If I find out anything earth-shattering, I'll post it to the net so that all may see... By the way, does Apple read this group? Perhaps they would know what happened... Thanks in advance, and sorry about the length, I endeavored to be complete... <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> < UUCP: {nosc ucsd hplabs!hp-sdd}!crash!erich > < ARPA: crash!erich@nosc.mil > < INET: erich@crash.cts.com > <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> -- <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> < UUCP: {nosc ucsd hplabs!hp-sdd}!crash!erich > < ARPA: crash!erich@nosc.mil > < INET: erich@crash.cts.com > < DISCLAIMER: My opinions are a figment of your imagination. > < "At last, after 2000 years of work, the Eludium PU-36 > < explosive space modulator." > <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
