Does anyone know how good the HP deskwriter is? What does/doesn't it do well? Are there any compatibility problems with major software, system 7, or truetype? How does it compare to the stylewriter? Thanks. Andrew Knox. University of Auckland, Auckland, New Zealand. mac_ftp@ccu1.aukuni.ac.nz. amed219@aucis.aukuni.ac.nz.

It benchmarks the new Apple printers against existing ones including the Desk Writer. HP solved the problem of smearing ink a few months ago by formulating a new ink. Does the Stylewriter have a good ink that does not easily smear after it has dried out?

HP's new ink smears easily when wet. It depends a lot on the paper-- with lightweight computer paper (holes removed), the ink smears badly, even after being out of the printer for a while. With the recommended (20lb cotton bond, which seems quite expensive-- anyone know a place to get it cheaply?) paper, the ink doesn't smear unless wet (haven't had it long enough to test after allowing it to dry for a reasonable amount of time) -- Matthew T.
