[comp.sys.mac.misc] Color Cursors, etc.

driskill@cs.utah.edu (Hank Driskill) (04/10/91)

(No, you're not seeing weird things, I posted first to comp.sys.mac.apps and
then decided system and misc were probably better, so I subscribed to them,
and here I am!)

I have a few questions, and I need to figure out the answers for my own well
being. I used to have both Sundesk and ClickChange running on my IIci at
home, but last weekend I installed 7.0 (actually, b4), and they both broke.
Here's the breakdown of what I want:

Sundesk: Had Color Icons, Alert Boxes, Cursors

(Sys7 has color icons, I used ResEdit 2.1 to paste the Alert Icons in color
myself, so they're there, and I was using ClickChange for the cursors anyway.
The Sundesk cursors aren't working right under Sys7 anyway... I checked after
ClickChange busted)

ClickChange: Sounds on Events, different WDEFs, Color Cursors

(I installed SndControl, which works on some of the events it's supposed to
under Sys7 -- not all, but better than ClickChange; the new 3Dish Mac windows
are okay, so I don't miss the WDEFs too much, but Color Cursors I have to get
back!)

So... here's my two 'gotta haves' for 7.0...

Color Cursors: the book 'ResEdit Complete' has a whole two paragraphs on
Color Cursors, and I already knew they were 'crsr' resources, so it didn't
help. How do I get color cursors on my mac under 7.0???

Color Icons: I turned all my Sundesk icons into 7.0 "icon families"... but
I can't find where the HD icon is now, or the disk icon -- or rather, I found
the floppy icon in the System File resource, but it doesn't make a floppy
color like it should! Any ideas? I can't find the HD icon at all... I'm
guessing it's in the Desktop DB (which has no resource fork to edit).

Also (I know, I know, I only said two, but I keep thinking of more!)

Disinfectant and Gatekeeper won't let me add icon families to their resource
forks -- they protect them from ANY writing. How do I alter the resource map
to get around this, so they can be color?

I can't find where the menus are stored... they're not in System, Finder or
Desktop, where are they? (I just wanted to change 'SuperBeta' to 'Special'
in the 7.0b4 menus...) I hate it when stuff gets moved...

Thanks in advance to whoever can help... I appreciate it.

Hank.

(PS: I LIKE 7.0!!!!!)
