[comp.sys.mac.misc] Requesting tips on buying Hard Disk

Arne.Venstad@elab-runit.sintef.no (04/10/91)

Dear netters,

I am in the market for a second hard disk for my Mac IIsi 5/40. I have seen
in the April issue of MacUser several ads for drives with the Quantum 105
mechanism as low as $349/$399, and asl low as $799 for the 210Mbyte. I assume
this is the older version of the Quantum mechanism (not the LPS). Should I
think twice before going for one of these?
Does anybody have any opinions on drives from APS, ETC, POWERDrive, Warehouse 54
or other?
I am going to buy postorder, any good pointers to good places? Where should
I not buy?

Thanks,

I tried email but it was a no go . . .

I recently ordered a Quantum 105mb from APS, $379 for the internal version.
I put in in a case my neighbor had and, poof.... For $379 and 2meg of
memory from my Apple //gs and I had a 105mb external drive for my Mac+.

This is the older Quantum, not the new LPS, but for the price I don't
think you can go wrong . . .

I have absolutly no complaints with either the drive or APS, and I've used
the drive extensivly since I got it . . .
