I recently got the "flock.hqx" file from mac.archive.umich.edu in the mac/utilities/screensavers directory. I am very interested in the source code, but the author gives no email address. The program is a simple demo of flight patterns of a flock of birds, using simple rules to determine the direction that the birds should fly. I remember hearing last summer that "a scientist" somewhere had discovered a very simple algorithm that seems to accurately predict flight patterns in a flock of birds, and I'm guessing that this is the algorithm used for the demo in the archive.
