A set of _files_ on a hard disk can not be deleted. Norton Disk Doctor reports the following error: "A part of the disk's directory (index node #75) was found to contain some invalid information (missing index record)." I will elaborate upon the situation below. I am seeking suggestions to fix this problem. The reasonable fix that I see is also brute force - back up the disk, format it, then reload the old contents. Many thanks in advance for your help! john lee. ---------- This is the situation. An otherwise happy Mac SE, with a 20 Mb Apple internal drive, has a folder '/tmp/Bogus System Folder'. We've inherited this mac, so I'm not sure what significance the name holds. In this folder are a set of system files. These files cannot be deleted. I've tried copying files over them (ie; ones with same names), and then deleting them. This appears to work, but the next time you open the folder the same files have managed to loiter back. Note this is not a problem tossing files that are locked or in use. A long line of disk tools have failed to delete the files. Most report an error akin to 'Cannot find file'. Norton gives the error cited above. Miscellaneous facts include: * System 6.0.5, Finder 6.1.5. * Norton certifies the disk media. * '/System Folder' is fine. The files in '/tmp/Bogus System Folder' are redundant. ----------
