[comp.sys.mac.misc] Mobius accelerator board: answers!

rcbaab@rwb.urc.tue.nl (Annard Brouwer) (04/15/91)

Well, here are some of the answers we got to our questions concerning the
Mobius accelerator board:

1) What kind of 68030 is used? If it is the one without MMU, is a socket
provided for a 68851? Is there also a socket for a FPU?
Mobius: An 68EC030, there is no MMU socket (you have to buy another board
for this option, cost: $230). There is however a FPU-socket.

2) What kind of RAM configurations are possible? Is it possible to mix
4Mb and 1Mb SIMMs for instance?
Mobius: The following configurations are allowed: 4x1Mb, 4x2Mb and 4x4Mb,

3) Since I have to use your monitor in Europe is it possible to obtain a
reference or maintenance manual in order to do some repairs myself?
(though I hope this will not happen to me!)
Mobius: This is possible.

4) Is there an extra connector on the board in order to hook up another
SE-card (like an ethernet card for example)?
Mobius: Nope and there won't be one in the future.

5) Is the video-board and/or monitor expandable to greyscale/colour?
Mobius: No way.

6) About the software: can the ROM of the SE be mapped to RAM?
Are there patches available for AppleTalk and Sound?
Mobius: No and No-No.
My comment: can anybody on the net tell me more about this? I think it's
very peculiar that they didn't implement these features since most other
manufacturers of accelerator boards allow these options...
And can owners of these boards tell me if sound is still working
correctly??

7) Can the RAM-disk which I can create of RAM on the SE-board be used
   for virtual memory?
Mobius: They think so but they aren't sure.
My comment: I think they didn't understand the question at all...

8) What is the warranty for outside-U.S. customers?
Mobius: No guarantee on the monitors, since the transportation costs are
rather high... The board is covered by their guarantee.
They are trying to try to sell them by retailers in Europe. But
sofar they only have one in Great Brittain.

Well, that's the story. If there are people on the net who can contribute
to this pool of knowledge I'll welcome it!

Greetings,
Annard
