[comp.sys.mac.misc] internet dial-up in NYC/NJ area

bh11+@andrew.cmu.edu (Braddock John Hathaway) (04/11/91)

I have heard about small companies that provide internet connections
for a fee ... does anyone know of one in the NYC/NJ area? I'm about
to (shudder) graduate and would like to maintain contact with these
forums. If anyone knows of a better place to post this, please let
me know.

Thanks,

Brad

Well, this doesn't have anything to do with the mac, but... :-)

You can call Meetpoint Station BBS in sceneic Queens. It is a public
access unix site. The number is (718)424-4183. The cost is only
$5/month. They have full email/usenet connectivity in both directions.

You will have to call by voice (718)335-8719 to set up your account.
If you have any questions, you can send mail to the sysop:
dave@msb.com

Cheers,

Chris

I am also about to graduate and concerned about losing my internet access! I
am looking for access in the Baltimore, MD area. Does anyone know of a
company or college that sells accounts to be able to read news, send mail and
ftp? How about Johns Hopkins? Do they offer accounts to the general public?

Thanks!

I am yet another senior with this same problem, but would like to approach
this from a different perspective. How does one go about setting up their own
system to be connected to internet? I am running a Macintosh SE/30 with 5 megs
and will have shortly 140 megs of disk space, and be running AUX. I have been c
ollecting mail servers, ect. I know this is going to cost some $$$s, but if
anyone has any idea who to contact and what I have to do please E-mail me and
post it for the rest of the interested users here.
                                             Thanks,
                                                Todd

Jim O'Dell included an informative discussion of this topic as part of the
Mac/gnuucp distribution (on sumex and the ics.uci.edu think-c archives,
among others). If that's too vague or hard to find, I can try to dig it out
and post it.

The best place to start would be with PSI-NET. Performance Systems Internat-
ional, INC. 1-800-82PSI82. They also have a internet mailaddress (big sur-
prise ;-} ) but I don't have it right here.
They have Dialup service for the NYC/NJ area in the 201-645-xxxx & 212-608-xxxx
regions. Nearby Phili 215-563-xxxx. Also Albany, rochester, syracuse, white
plains NY. Boston, chicago, detroit, hartford, L.A., Mtn View Ca, Pitt, reston
VA, Santa Clara ca, Washinton DC, and probably a few other by now.
But as you said, It ain't cheap (probably).
