[comp.sys.mac.misc] How do I decode .cpt files?

JB3YRHMC@MIAMIU.BITNET (Josh Braveman) (04/17/91)

I recently downloaded a file from an ftp site. I sucessful debinhexed
it, but now I see that the file has a .cpt extension. Obviously, this
is niether stuffit or packit. Any ideas about how to decode this
file. Thanx. Email is fine.

The suffix is generated by a relatively new compression utility called
Compactor. I believe it is a "commercial" product (as opposed to s/w) but
am not sure and am therefore not sure where you might best obtain it.

Nope, it is shareware. Binhexed form at sumex. Translates to
a self extracting archive.

Compactor is now known as Compact Pro. It should be available at sumex in
version 1.4. It's shareware, not commercial. Also, this program is wonderful
for speed and smooth background compress/decompression.

Compact Pro (used to be Compactor) is shareware $25. It knocks the socks
off of stuffit (no flames please). It REALLY mashes files down.

If you really don't want to buy Compact Pro, you can get the free extractor
from anon FTP. The only place I positively rememeber seeing it was at
sumex.standford.edu. in info-mac/util/?cptexpand.hqx? (unsure about path, but I
know it is there.)

Compactor is a S/W product. You should be able to get it from sumex-aim or
some other Mac FTP sites...If you can't find it e-mail me and I'll send a
copy your way...

From the same ftp site - download COMPACTER. This is another compression
utility that compresses files slightly smaller than STUFFIT.
